IPC extends Memorandum of Understanding with ISSF

February 2 - The International Paralympic Committee (IPC has extended its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) with a new agreement regarding the shotgun discipline.
The agreement, which was signed by ISSF president Olegario Vazquez Rana and IPC chief executive Xavier Gonzalez, saw the two organisations agree to recognise the Federazione Italiana Tiro al Volo (FITAV) as the organisation that will co-ordinate the global development of the shotgun discipline for shooters with disabilities.
This means that FITAV will design and implement a project to further develop the shotgun events for disabled shooters, including its rules and regulations.
FITAV will also conduct test competitions and then report their recommendations to the ISSF for review, and then to the IPC for approval.
The IPC signed the original MoU with the ISSF in November 2010 to promote competitions, events, knowledge exchange and the general development of Paralympic shooting and its participating athletes.
The Paralympic shooting competition will see a total of 100 men and 40 women compete across 12 medal events at the historic Royal Artillery Barracks on the edge of Woolwich Common.
Shooting will be one of 20 sports featured at the London 2012 Paralympic Games this summer.
The sport of shooting has been part of the Paralympic Games since Toronto 1976, when three events were held.
At one point the number of events expanded to as many as 29, but since the Sydney 2000 Games, a standard 12 events have been included.
