March 18 - A new website for businesses connected to tourism and hoping to benefit from London hosting the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics has been set-up by VisitBritain in conjunction with LOCOG and the Nations and Regions Group.

The new website www.tourism2012games.org was launched during British Tourism Week at the Best of Britain and Ireland (BOBI) event in London’s Olympia today, the event to showcase the value of British tourism.

The new website also includes brand protection guidelines which provide tourism-specific examples of what can be communicated to customers about tourism products and services in relation to the Games.

Sandie Dawe, the chief executive of VisitBritain, said: "The 2012 Games are a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to host the world's biggest party, to showcase Britain and improve our welcome

"There is a potential £2.1 billion benefit at stake so with little over two years to go, we aim to make tourism businesses aware of the opportunities and challenges.

"The new Tourism2012Games website will help everyone in tourism understand exactly how they can benefit from the Games."

Jonathan Edwards the 2000 Olympic triple jump champion who is now the deputy chairman of London 2012 Nations and Regions Group, said: "The 2012 Games are vital to UK tourism.

"We know that the welcome given by people who work in our hotels, restaurants and attractions will make all the difference in 2012."

As well as marketing guidance the Tourism2012Games site includes business advice and access to products and services from two of London 2012’s main Top Tier sponsors, BT and Lloyds TSB.

Tourism businesses are also invited to submit their own news and views about the 2012 Games and to register to receive a regular e-newsletter to keep them updated on relevant news as the Games draw nearer.
