October 7 - South African Paralympic heroine Natalie du Toit won her second gold and set her second meeting record of the Commonwealth Games here after claiming a comfortable victory in the women’s 100 metres freestyle S9 race.
he 26-year-old du Toit, who won the women’s 50m freestyle this week, looked completely in control on route to victory at the Dr. S. P. Mukherjee Aquatics Complex in what is set to be the last Commonwealth Games of her career.
England’s Stephanie Millward won silver with Ellie Cole of Australia claiming the bronze.
But it was the 10-time Paralympic gold medallist who dominated the race to pick up the sixth Commonwealth title of her career.
Du Toit, who lost her leg in a motorbike accident in 2001, told insideworldparasport: "It is fantastic to have won another Commonwealth Games gold medal against a really talented group of girls.
"I didn’t have the best start and I was behind for the first 25 meters but I picked it up at the half way stage and my last 50 meters felt really good.
"It was a great atmosphere out there and I’m really trying to enjoy this meet as it will be my last Commonwealth Games."
Millward said: "It was a great race for me and I’m delighted to come away with the silver medal.
"I feel like I’m getting closer to Natalie all the time but she is obviously a legend in the sport and the one we all have to try to beat.
"Hopefully, by the time we get to the London 2012 Paralympics, I can really close that gap and beat Natalie on the biggest stage but I will have to keep working hard as I know what a tough competitor she is."
