By Tom Degun

my paralympic_picture_10-10-11October 7 - The "My Paralympic Picture" contest launched by the Rio 2016 Organising Committee has now entered the voting phase with the public invited to choose their favourite picture from the 20 finalists.

The competition began last month and people from across the world were asked to take photos that represent what the Paralympic Movement means to them and upload them onto the official Rio 2016 website.

There were over 200 registered photos for the competition and the Rio 2016 Organising Committee has shortlisted 20 finalists.

Each of the 20 photos shows different athletes participating in a Paralympic sport, while each one has a title and a brief explanation of why the photo is an expression of the Paralympic Movement.

Voting is open on the Rio 2016 website until October 31, 2011, and the contest takes place at an exciting time for Paralympic sport in Brazil.

The country are currently placed among the top 10 Paralympic nations, and are aiming for a top seven finish at London 2012 and a top five by at their home Paralympic Games in 2016.

Next month, more than 200 athletes will represent Brazil at the Guadalajara 2011 Parapan American Games in Mexico.

The team will aim to surpass the 228 medals they won at 2007 Rio Parapan Games, when they finished top the medal table.
