February 17 - World heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis (pictured) has been named European Women's Athlete of the Month for January.

Ennis posted a UK 60 metres hurdles record of 7.95sec at the Aviva International match in Glasgow on January 30.

The Sheffield star also cleared a high jump indoor personal best of 1.94 metres at the Kelvin Hall meeting, just one centimetre away from the British record.

Ennis, who missed last weekend's World Trials with a minor injury, is also a nominee in the World Comeback of the Year category at the prestigious Laureus Awards on March 10.

After missing the Beijing Olympic Games with a stress fracture of her right foot, the 24-year-old heptathlete bounced back brilliantly to win last summer's World Championship title.

Russian Ivan Ukhov won the European men's award after a string of high quality indoor high jump displays.
