May 30 - Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of Delhi 2010, said tonight that he understood the Queen's decision not to attend this year's Commonwealth Games.

As revealed earlier today on insidethegames, the Queen will miss the Games for the first time since they were held in Kingston in 1966 because of her tight schedule.

Prince Charles will instead represent her at the Games, which are due to open in the Indian capital on October 3.

Kalmadi had already been informed of the Queen's decision before Buckingham Palace announced she would not be attending.

He said: "Yes, the Queen has confirmed it to us that Prince Charles will be coming as her representative.

"We are alright with it.

"The Queen had attended the Baton Relay Ceremony at Buckingham Palace [last October] and this time she is sending the Prince.

"Also Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will be coming as vice patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation."
